Courses for 2009

I am a qualified teacher with many years' experience of teaching adults, running workshops and giving presentations. All my classes are friendly, practical and enjoyable. I often run workshops for interested groups and local authorities, as well as giving shorter talks locally, and am happy to discuss whether I can offer something in your area.

For 2009 I am continuing to offer my own popular course for beginners who would like some guidance in applying feng shui to their homes.

The Beginners' course consists of three parts of one day each. They are staged over the year and can be booked one at a time. Part 1 is interesting and valuable on its own - you need not take all three.

These three days form the 'Approved Foundation Course' accredited by the Feng Shui Society. This gives a solid introduction for those who want to work on their own homes, and a good foundation for anyone thinking of starting professional training.

The venue for all sessions is Lytham Assembly Rooms, Lytham St. Annes, Lamcs, 15 minutes from Junction 32 of the M6.

I am also available to run Workshops for therapists this year. They are based on my experience of working with a wide variety of healers / counsellors / teachers / retailers over the last ten years.

Everyone is welcome, from those just thinking about setting up a practice to people who are already running a centre or working full time as therapists.

The aim is to offer a package of ideas and guidelines for applying feng shui to your therapy space to encourage relaxation and enhance healing. I also show you how to apply commercial feng shui to your signage, advertising and business stationery, to promote trade and prosperity.

Feng Shui For Therapists

We had a great day – ten thoughtful therapists and a feng shui teacher figuring out how to attract more custom and help people heal faster. As many healers are startled to discover, being a successful therapist is not just about your ability to apply the techniques or be a good listener, it's about developing all sorts of business skills as well - marketing, pricing, selling, advertising .…. most of us have to do them ourselves, particularly when we're starting up. Nine years I've spent so far working with individual therapists, visiting their homes, therapy rooms and salons to give feng shui advice, and along the way I've had to go through the whole experience of being a start-up small business myself. Those nine years have given me a mine of information about the key factors in becoming a successful therapist, and how feng shui can help create that success.
Our starting point in the workshop was to take as read that we are competent in our therapies, and aware that our surroundings make a difference.
Then we got down to some additional useful skills:

·Choosing premises that would be good for business.

·Creating a welcoming and client-attracting entrance

·Organizing a reception area that welcomes and sells

·Planning the layout of a treatment room to keep clients relaxed and secure

·Keeping ourselves healthy and our spirits high

·Designing a brochure / website / business card to bring in plenty of enquiries

·Asking for payment and handling finances without worrying

·Developing plenty of word-of-mouth referrals from existing clients

·Having a confident and professional manner

Feng shui has plenty of ideas to contribute to all of the above, and most of the principles can be applied to all size and location of treatment rooms. Even mobile therapists can adapt many of the guidelines to help make working in community centres or clients' houses more effective.

There are challenges in working at home that feng shui can help with, particularly in keeping home and therapy space clearly separate. Nothing will make a first-time client anxious and unhappy like not knowing which house or door to go to, hearing the sounds of family life outside the treatment room door, or focusing on a poster of symptoms and body parts throughout the treatment!

Some places have strong energy for business success generally, and the direction of the main door can influence the types of therapy that will be successful there. It is sometimes possible to turn a desk or chair to face a personally supportive direction, or use some of the feng shui tools like fresh water to increase client numbers, or singing bowls to keep the working atmosphere calm and healthy.

Everybody who came took away a long list of things to try out themselves and a much increased level of confidence. We even managed to swap some valuable business tips and information at lunchtime! One therapist has already made six new clients within a week, and I look forward to telling you more.
